On that last day of building Scherherazade, while the mast was being positioned, fire boats squirting their hoses alerted us to another event occurring out in Boston Harbor. Those not engaged in securing the mast looked towards the spouting water. And there it was: Old Ironsides. The U.S.S. Constitution, with a full complement of sailors on her deck, was about to pass close by. The oldest (commissioned) sailing vessel in the United States was, at that moment, passing by the newest. |
