"Post" Modern

After years of shooting in black and white, I’ve started to explore the effects of adding color to my work. This has led to new ways of experiencing the subjects towards which I gravitate.

In this series of images from city streets, I have discovered myself to be in conversation with a wide range of visual artists who have created iconic works in the twentieth century and beyond. Sometimes I make an immediate connection between my photograph and the artist.  Other times it is a later discovery, while exploring a museum or gallery.

Regardless of origin, each photograph in this series has become a double homage – to the urban landscape and to the creations of visionary artists.

Among the artists in the extended series: Ellsworth Kelly - Marsden Hartley - Donald Judd - Georgia O'Keefe - Robert Rauschenberg - Ben Shahn - Ad Reinhardt - Kara Walker - Dan Flavin - Leon Golub - Jean-Michel Basquiat - Richard Diebenkorn - Jasper Johns - Anselm Kiefer - John Baldessari - Edward Hopper - Jim Dine - Gerhard Richter - Barnett Newman
