Concrete Curiosity

Concrete Curiosity is a photobook and a guide.

As a photobook, I document my exploration of the physical world of cement, concrete, and construction with still photography and a video. As a guide, I have curated a collection of YouTube videos that, in an entertaining fashion, answer questions that begin, “How did they do that?” You will also find two videos about concrete architecture separated by 2000 years.

It began on our balcony as I watched a building going up a few blocks away. I could see the cranes, concrete boom, and tiny laborers all moving about. This made me think about the countless other concrete mid-rise and high-rise buildings going up in and around West Palm Beach. My interest was piqued. Questions flooded in, often some variation of “How did they do that?” I was hooked. I had to know more. What is cement? How is it made? What is concrete? How is it made? How are high-rise buildings constructed? I wanted answers (at the lay-person level).

If you have concrete curiosity, please give the guide a try. If not, there is the photobook and the opportunity to get curious another time.
